Your Memory of Events 2  80 x80cm / 31.5” 2019 (Oil on canvas - Stretched/Unframed) 
 
This painting is signed by the artist on the reverse, it will arrive, stretched on wooden bars but unframed.  The edges are painted the same colour as the base coat of the painting.  This piece can be hung unframed but we recommend a simple tray frame with a shadow gap if you wish to frame it.  
 
This abstract oil painting is part of Genevieve Leavold’s ‘Fugue States’ collection which explores questions about identity and memory. This collection was exhibited in Belgrade in 2019. 
 
‘Your Memory of Events I’ and ‘II’ were both inspired by a recollection shared by both the artist and her sister from childhood, in which one of them injured a hand accidentally at a summer fete.  
 
Both sisters recall the event vividly,  as though they had been the victim in the accident.  Each can point to  a scar to verify the injury, yet neither can vouch for certain which one actually was hurt that day.
 
The painting evokes a bright flash of memory and the theme central to the work is one of freedom from the past.  
 
Painted in the artist’s characteristic organic spontaneous style of brushwork, using rich glazes, the larger form gives a sense of dynamic energy, like a sunburst and a moment of release.
 
The soft opaque forms fragmenting like clouds after a storm.  Overall the painting imbues a sensation of lightness and energy.
 
This is a bold statement piece and would provide a significant focal point to a social space, such as a formal dining or reception room. It would perfectly complement an elegant interior design especially dark walls..
